Digital Mersea
Circles Saturday
and Sunday 16 & 17 August The
artwork Mersea Circles involves tracking people as they walk around the
island, using GPS devices (Global Positioning System) and video cameras.
If you enjoy walking outdoors, please join internationally renowned digital
artist Masaki Fujihata and a group of Rangers (Essex based artists and
filmmakers) on Mersea Island for a different type of walk with a futuristic
twist! We
are looking for residents of Mersea Island and members of the public interested
in taking part on the walks, the artist would like to involve 120 people!
In
addition to the walk (approximately 3 hrs), there will be a presentation
by the artist Masaki Fujihata about the project and David Nicholls, National
Trust and Essex Wildlife Trust Warden of Ray Island who will talk about
the history of Mersea and its coastal habitat. The
data collected over the weekend will be used by Fujihata to create a virtual
three-dimensional installation of the journeys, to be shown at firstsite
from 29 November 2003 7 February 2004. Free
event but you must sign up for a time slot in advance 10am or 11am
or 12pm Sat/Sun Please phone firstsite on 01206 577067 or email coastdigital@futurephysical.org firstsite@the
