Elizabeth Wright
Tendring District
During 2003 Elizabeth Wright explored the seaside towns of Harwich, Dovercourt and Walton-on-the-Naze. She was immediately drawn to the flat horizon line, which is occasionally punctured by vertical structures such as the Harwich lighthouses and the Naze Tower. Wright was intrigued by the population explosion that occurs in Walton-on-the-Naze throughout the summer, particularly the number of vehicles and coaches that line the town's roads and carparks.
Unfortunately, Wright's proposal to install an upended coach along the Walton-on-the-Naze seafront, thereby creating a vertical landmark, will not be realised. Her proposal will be represented in the Coast exhibition (31 July - 4 September 2004) and Wright is currently researching and developing a second proposal for another location in the Tendring District, which will be launched in summer 2005.
